Biography

I began working with BoyarMiller's Litigation Group in August of 2009 after clerking at the firm during law school. Since joining the firm, I have represented both individuals and corporations in all types of commercial and business litigation. In doing so, I strive to provide counsel beyond expectations and make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

As a dean's scholar and presidential fellow at the University of Houston Law Center, I served as the Executive Editor of the Houston Journal of International Law and on the executive board of the Student Bar Association. I also received a Law Center LEX Award for outstanding writing and a Gulf Coast Power Association Scholarship for my thesis on international renewable energy policy.

Prior to law school, I served as a lieutenant and captain in the U.S. Army, including two deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I also served as a captain in the Texas Army National Guard during my first two years at the Law Center. My military awards and decorations include a Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Medal and an Army Commendation Medal.

Representative Matters

  • Represented an owner of a hotel against a large group customer who cancelled a series of contracts claiming the hotel's service has diminished. The customer preemptively sued the client. Counter-claims were filed on behalf of the client and, at trial, the customer's claims were dismissed via directed verdict. A unanimous jury rendered a verdict in favor of the client finding that the customer breached the contracts.
  • Represented local radio personalities in lawsuit against their former broadcast and syndication company. Gained favorable settlement for clients based on pending summary judgment motion.
  • Successfully defended a nationwide manufacturer in a lawsuit brought under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act in Galveston County, Texas. After a two-day trial, the jury rendered a unanimous defense verdict in favor of the firm's client in less than 15 minutes.

Education

  • JD, University of Houston Law Center
  • BS in Economics, U.S. Military Academy at West Point (with High Honors)

Representative Matters

  • Representing a hospitality client in a lawsuit brought by former investor seeking to gain control over the client's property. Obtained summary judgment protecting client's property from any future judgment.
  • Representing an insurance agency with regard to violation of non-solicitation, nondisclosure, and confidentiality agreements by former employee.
  • Represented multiple local companies in breach of contract actions relating to the purchase and sale of products and services.
  • Represented developer of residential master planned community in connection with multi-million dollar lawsuit brought by grading contractor and counter-claim for liquidated damages against the contractor.
  • Represented developer of residential master planned community in connection with a lawsuit brought by a contractor for defects in the construction of a faux bridge structure and defending claims for payment by contractor.
  • Represented a former tenant of a Houston-area retail shopping plaza in connection with a lawsuit over the landlord's constructive eviction of the tenant from the leased space.
  • Represented a shopping mall owner in connection with a lawsuit against tenant and guarantor for breaching payment and performance obligations arising under a long-term lease agreement.
  • Represented a software utilities and management company and its chief executive officer on a breach of contract claim filed by two of the company's former employees. The former employees claimed they were owed approximately $360,000 based on an amendment to an original purchase agreement regarding the sale of a software program. Summary judgment was awarded when it was shown that the amendment lacked material terms and was unenforceable as a matter of law. Following summary judgment, the former employees settled their remaining claims on very favorable terms for our clients.
  • Successfully defended a client with over 4,000 employees in a discrimination lawsuit including claims of age, race, gender, and disability discrimination.
