I joined the firm in August 2005 as an associate in the Business Group after having clerked for the firm during the summer of 2004. Since joining the firm, I have been involved in real estate and general corporate transactions. Prior to joining the firm, I worked in Big Four public accounting for three years as an auditor serving SEC registrants primarily in the energy industry and subsequently managed a consulting business focused on delivering accounting and business process improvements to several local energy companies.
During my tenure with the firm, I have been involved in numerous transactions including the following:
- representation of a large regional hospital system in:
- general corporate matters
- the reorganization of its legal and governance structure
- the refinancing of certain acquisition costs through the issuance of $94,000,000 in tax-exempt bonds
- representation of a real estate developer and entrepreneur in the acquisition of 38 acres along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway;
- representation of a local manufacturing business in the sale of its assets for $9,000,0000;
- representation of a local financial services business in the reorganization of its legal and capital structure, including a $7,000,000 capital infusion from institutional equity investors;
- representation of a real estate investor in the acquisition of over 900,000 square feet of commercial office space in Dallas’s Central Market development area; and
- representation of a nation-wide production communication equipment and services company in the reorganization of its legal and governance structure and the acquisition of strategic assets for $6,000,000 and related financing.
I currently serve on the Board of Directors of Trees for Houston, a non-profit organization dedicated to the orderly planting of trees along Houston’s major arterial streets and freeways. When not working, I like to work outside and travel with my wife, Emily. I also like to read, fish, hunt, and play cards. I have eight siblings and twelve in-laws, with more lawyers in the family than should be allowed. We are very fortunate to have such a wide network of friends and strong family ties both in Texas and across the United States.
