Why It Works

“We've worked hard to develop and articulate our culture to create an environment where people are challenged in their jobs, feel valued and have fun. Our core value of mutual respect, support and open communication is our guiding principle. In order to achieve our mission, we must have a great team with great people. We're fortunate to have both.” Bill Boyar, Chairman

Denise Strauss - Executive Director

I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of Boyar & Miller. I began working at the firm in 1999 as Director of Marketing where I was charged with overseeing the creation and development of the firm’s first-ever branding campaign. My responsibilities have grown by leaps and bounds and there is never a dull moment.

My career at Boyar & Miller is richly rewarding and a constant series of growth opportunities that I attribute to the unique culture here. It is a place where people genuinely care about one another. The two things I value most about being part of the organization is its humanity and its leadership. While we are in business to make money it is not the be all and end all of what we are about; we believe if we are true to our core values and our mission we make a difference in lives of our clients adding value far beyond that of just rendering of legal services. I am proud of Boyar & Miller and proud to be part of the team."

Ruth Gaona - Billing Coordinator

I am responsible for the administration of billing, client account reconciliations and receipts. I have worked for the firm for more than five years and have grown to enjoy and appreciate my job and the people I work with here at Boyar & Miller. Having a professional, hardworking and caring crew to work with makes juggling my life at work and home much easier.”

Jimmie Johnson - Facilities Management Manager

I work for the firm helping the attorneys and their assistants with copying and faxing of legal documents, sorting and circulating the mail and office supplies. It is a joy working at Boyar & Miller with its family atmosphere at the office and at outside firm functions. There is also a commitment to excellence here in everyone’s work. Working here has been a great opportunity for me and for my family.

Bill Manning – Business Group Paralegal

I have been with the firm since 1986 and assist both the Business and Litigation groups. Part of my job to is to provide support to each of the attorneys in connection with whatever transactions that they may be working on. Among many of the services that I provide, my primary job is in the corporate area, meaning that I help form corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships as well as preparing many of the formation documents, such as articles of incorporation, certificates of limited partnership, limited partnership agreements, regulations along with various consents and resolutions.

I am fortunate to be in a position where I really enjoy what I do and where I work. I look forward to new challenges that each day brings and our lawyers provide not only challenging and interesting assignments, but also the training, guidance and support that is not only important to me and the firm, but most importantly, to our clients.

Sharon Galloway – Business Group Legal Assistant

When I moved to Houston in 1976, I took a job working for a bright, promising young attorney, Bill Boyar, and the rest, as they say, is history! There seldom is a dull moment working with Bill and with Tim Heinrich and Forrest Gordon, whom I also assist. The firm has some outstanding clients who have given us exciting opportunities and with whom it has been a pleasure to work. I appreciate the cooperative relationship among everyone at Boyar & Miller, and I especially appreciate my being valued as an individual and being recognized for my contributions to the firm. Boyar & Miller is an outstanding place to work!

Jennifer Lucas – Business Group Legal Assistant

I have worked in the legal industry since 1976.  In fact, when I first started we had no computers; we worked on IBM Selectric typewriters. Many times the attorneys would manually input changes on documents with a pen as we rushed to make court filing deadlines!  In addition to all the years of doing something I truly love, I've raised five beautiful children and am a grandmother eight times over!  One of the things that immediately impressed me about Boyar & Miller was, AND is, the firm's philosophy that family does matter; that's still a rare thing with law firms today.  I feel very lucky and privileged to work here.

Jan Searson - Litigation Group Legal Assistant

"In the many+ years I have been in the legal arena, I have seen the best and the worst this industry has to offer. Much time has passed since I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Chris Hanslik in 1994, and it was with Chris that I came to Boyar & Miller in 2004. I now work with Chris, Anthony Sullivan and Matt Veech in the Litigation Group.

When I was first told of the firm’s core values, I approached the idea rather tentatively. Many firms profess to have core values but no one actually sees them being utilized. Boyar & Miller is different. Boyar & Miller emphasizes its core values. They display them proudly for all to see and everyone in the firm, from Bill Boyar on down, is challenged to uphold them. They truly believe that family matters and that being of service to the community is important. They practice what they preach and that is a refreshing change. I know my contribution to the Boyar & Miller team is valued and appreciated. I am grateful for the chance to work here and look forward to building an even stronger future with my team."

Gloria Howard – Business Group Legal Assistant

Having worked in the legal field since 1979 in various areas of law, I have found that working hard, enjoying what I do and being a team player are key staples in this business.  Since my joining the firm in 1997 as a legal assistant, I have seen great strides in making our firm the best it can be. It is awesome!  My work exposes me to private placements, asset acquisitions, purchase and sale of companies, corporate filings and real estate transactions.  The firm diligently strives to live by its core values and this is what I appreciate most!"

Macel Haygood – Litigation Group Legal Assistant

"When I interviewed with the firm there was one condition I had before I would take the job. That was for the firm to accept my belief in God first, family second and work third. Most law firms would have a problem with this, however, not Boyar & Miller. Knowing that the firm cares about me and my family makes me work harder for the firm. I have worked for Boyar & Miller since February of 2004 and every day has been rewarding and a learning experience.

Boyar & Miller has a professional atmosphere and attorneys that appreciate their assistants. It is all about team work and I feel privileged and honored to be a part of the team.
