A birth year bottle of cabernet sauvignon sipped in college launched a career for BoyarMiller client and winemaker Ryan Waugh. Inspired by the cab, Waugh entered the wine business working part time in college. After graduation, he became cellar master at Chateau Potelle in Napa Valley.

Then in 2000, Waugh created Waugh Cellars out of his garage, installed a vineyard, and celebrated their first commercial release in 2001. Now known as Waugh Family Wines, the company has grown to 4,000 cases produced, three labels, and a sparkling wine all made with grapes grown from 17 different vineyards between Napa and Sonoma. The sparkling is named after Ryan’s wife Crystal who is a native Houstonian. Together, they’ve also built a custom crush winery called The Caves at Soda Canyon and a distillery in Texas called Texas Ferments.

About Waugh Family Wines, the Napa Wine Project says, “Ryan is one of the new generation of Napa winemakers … with initiative, vision, international wine experience, and a passion for working with vineyards.”

BoyarMiller represented Waugh Family Wines in transitioning their company from a California to Texas entity. In addition to entity selection, the firm has also provided employment law direction and assisted with producing private label wines.
