As part of its ongoing Breakfast Forum series, BoyarMiller gathered industry experts for insightful panel discussions for a look ahead into 2018 for Houston’s commercial real estate markets. Speakers included:

  • Jonathan Brinsden, Midway – Office Market/Mixed-Use Development
  • John Nicholson, AVERA Companies – Industrial Market

Jimmy Hinton – Managing Director, Research, HFF

Mr. Hinton serves as Managing Director of HFF, responsible for the firm’s research efforts. Mr. Hinton works with the executive management team to assist in investor relations and to inform both HFF staff and firm clients with in-depth analysis of economic, property and capital market trends. He is also responsible for providing extensive market reports, client presentations and deal-specific analysis for debt placement and investment sales assignments. Mr. Hinton’s responsibilities include substantial interaction with pension funds, life insurance companies, regional and CMBS lenders, REITs, foreign investors and private equity funds.

Prior to his role as Managing Director, Mr. Hinton worked at Cadence Bank, N.A. (fka Community Bancorp, LLC), a bank holding company formed in 2009 to invest $1 billion of equity in distressed financial institutions. Mr. Hinton’s responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions, investor and regulatory relations, corporate governance and real estate loan portfolio management.

Prior to Cadence Bank, Mr. Hinton served as an Associate Director, Research and Real Estate Analyst at HFF, underwriting, valuing and facilitating debt and structured finance transactions, as well as equity placements.

During his tenure at HFF, Mr. Hinton has supported the execution of more than 150 commercial real estate transactions totaling more than $4.5 billion in 20 states. Mr. Hinton has experience in fixed- and adjustable-rate debt, mezzanine debt, construction loans and joint venture executions on behalf of clients engaged in the acquisition, development and recapitalization of property types including multi-housing, industrial, office, retail, medical office and storage properties. Mr. Hinton first joined HFF in February 2005 after working in the private wealth management industry for two years.

Jonathan Brinsden – CEO, Midway

Jonathan Brinsden serves as chief executive officer of Midway and guides the company’s overall business strategy and operations. Jonathan is a member of Midway’s leadership team and investment committee.

Jonathan joined Midway’s development team in 2001, was named chief operating officer in 2008 and chief executive officer in 2013. Prior to joining Midway, Jonathan served as president and chief operating officer of Hamm Corporation, a Houston-based development company.

He is a member of the Urban Land Institute Global Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and the Governance Committee, and past Chair of ULI Houston. He is also a board member of NAIOP and an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Jonathan is active in a number of civic leadership and charitable organizations including the board of Central Houston, Vice Chairman of Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Chairman of the Board of SEARCH. Jonathan is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Bauer Graduate Real Estate Program and serves on the Executive Advisory Board.

Jonathan holds a Master of Science in Land and Real Estate Development, a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design, all from Texas A&M University.

John Nicholson – Executive Vice President of Development, AVERA Companies

John Nicholson serves as Executive Vice President of Development at AVERA Companies. Over the last sixteen years, Mr. Nicholson has negotiated over 700 transactions providing in excess of $750,000,000 in transaction value. Prior to joining Avera, John served as Senior Vice President at Transwestern, and was most recently employed by Cushman & Wakefield as Executive Managing Director, with the responsibility of leading his Industrial Services group in the Houston area.

Prior to the commencement of his commercial real estate career, John was a second round draft pick in the Major League Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
