In Super Lawyers Texas magazine, former Chairman of SEARCH Homeless Services, Chris Hanslik, who also serves as board chairman of the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County (CFTH), shared his experience in helping reduce homelessness in Houston through his involvement with SEARCH and CFTH.
Hanslik first became involved with SEARCH while attending South Texas College of Law. He later joined the board at the encouragement of Bill Boyar, a former Chairman of SEARCH, fellow board member, and founding shareholder of BoyarMiller. Hanslik credits much of Houston’s progress in reducing homelessness to a strong focus on housing solutions and the efforts of organizations like SEARCH and CFTH.
Hanslik believes in treating people experiencing homelessness with dignity, recognizing the power of community support. Here he also notes that addressing homelessness is more cost-effective than managing its consequences through emergency services or the justice system. Investments in housing deliver better returns for public and philanthropic funds, but access remains a significant challenge due to limited resources. He encourages lawmakers to maintain consistent funding to prevent disruptions in homelessness response efforts.
