Bill Boyar Accepts KIPP Award

Bill Boyar of BoyarMiller accepts the KIPP Extra Mile Award from Sehba Ali, superintendent of KIPP Houston Public Schools.

Since July 1, 2018, Bill Boyar has served as Chair of the KIPP Texas Board of Directors. For the three years prior, he served as Chair of the KIPP Houston Executive Board of Directors, the organization’s largest region educating 14,500 students in 28 schools in grades pre-K3 through 12. KIPP serves low-income communities and educates students with the academic and character skills necessary to thrive in college and to lead choice-filled lives.

“This award is one way of expressing our sincere gratitude to Bill Boyar for his incredibly hard work on behalf of KIPP Houston,” said Laurie Bieber, Chief Advancement Officer of KIPP Houston. “Bill has gone above and beyond for many years to further our mission and to provide our students, the KIPPsters, with more and better opportunities. We appreciate his leadership and unyielding dedication to our goals and to our students.”

“It is so rewarding for me to be a part of driving positive change and making a difference in people’s lives,” said Boyar. “I appreciate this award tremendously, and it is truly an honor to contribute to the goals of KIPP Houston. While only 10 percent of public school students from low-income communities in Harris County graduate from college, nearly 50 percent of KIPP students graduate from college. We are helping to break a cycle of education failure and lack of opportunity to escape poverty—and that in itself is very gratifying.”
