“I was drawn to BoyarMiller because the firm made a conscious decision to create a culture to make a difference for its clients, its employees and the community. The leadership of the firm actually lives that vision—it’s not just something we say. There is strong support and mutual respect for each other to be outstanding legal practitioners. We all want to do the best for our clients and for each other. I think we have something sustainable and really quite unique.”

– Larry Wilson, Shareholder, Business Group

BoyarMiller Shareholder Larry Wilson has had two positions in his illustrious career that qualify as “dream jobs.”

The first was starting the legal department of Stewart & Stevenson Services when he was in his late 20s. A family company founded in 1902, it had just gone public and was full of “entrepreneurial characters” who loved working with engines. Stewart & Stevenson manufactured and distributed products for various industries. A self-proclaimed “gear head” himself, Larry enjoyed being around engineers who were modifying diesel engines for various uses.

“The company developed engines for everything from oilfield equipment to luxury yachts and built equipment for everything from snow removal to power generation. My role was to provide counsel in all of those environments,” said Larry. “That is what I love about practicing law—working as a member of a team with creative business leaders to help them succeed.”

Born in Houston, Larry grew up in Oklahoma and made it back to the Bayou City when he was 17—and hasn’t left. He has been married for 40 years to Marcia, a retired NICU nurse. They have three daughters and enjoy staying busy with three grandchildren.

The Wilsons hosted a Thanksgiving reunion for 30 family members as Larry’s four siblings and their spouses and children gather together from both coasts and the Midwest. “We enjoyed a traditional feast on Thanksgiving, and the day following, had a Chickasaw meal in honor of our father,” said Larry. “It included dishes like fry bread, hominy and succotash.”

Larry has now been in private law practice for 15 years and landed his second dream “job” when he joined BoyarMiller as a shareholder earlier this year.

“I am so happy to be here. The firm fits my life at this point. I want to help business people realize their vision of success.”
