Meet Adebola Akisanya

]Tell us a little about you and where you are from.

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. Came to the U.S. at 16 to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, and have pretty much been in the U.S. ever since, apart from a 3-year period between 2016 and 2019 when I was back in Lagos for work and to obtain my Nigerian Bar license. Now Houston is home, and I would not have it any other way (unless someone wants to pay me to live in Singapore). I am proudly and unapologetically Nigerian, and hope to see Nigerian cuisine become more popular globally at some point because it is simply amazing.

What interesting jobs have you had prior to BoyarMiller.

My first job out of college was at a regional law firm as a project assistant in the firm’s medical device products liability group. I was involved heavily in the due diligence and unfortunately had to wade through scores of pictures of rather unsavory body parts affected by the defective medical devices pretty much every other week (got used to it after a while, but still…). The experience also solidified my desire to be a corporate lawyer instead of a litigator.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Obviously some recency bias here, but the upcoming birth of my son (first child) is lighting a fire under my butt. I am inspired to do my absolute best personally and professionally to make him proud to call me “dad”..

What do you consider to be the most compelling or interesting aspect of studying/practicing law? 

The most enjoyable part of practicing law for me is providing business and legal advice to the so-called “unsophisticated” clients i.e. those entering into major sale or acquisition transactions for the very first time in their lives. Taking them from a position of uncertainty and downright trepidation at times to one where they are comfortable, happy, and satisfied at the end is part of what keeps me going.

What interests you outside of the law?

The growing food scene in Houston, Arsenal Football Club (heart emoji), and banging on my drum set.
